“I feel like I didn’t contribute to the team.”

We had our annual 5th & 6th grade track and field event today. Five elementary schools participate in relays, individual runs, shot put, high jump and the like.  It’s a great day.

My son participated in shot put and high jump. He was “out” pretty quick. Others jump higher and throw farther. Of course. 5th graders come in all shapes, sizes and abilities.

His response makes me wonder about our school staff.  Does everyone feel like a contributor?  Even when we come up short, we are still vital parts of the whole team.

A huge part that I play is making sure all players know they are integral to the team.  Or is it equally important that staff lean on one another, feel the greater value of the group, and seek their best from within more so than from without?  Or both?
