This week we launched World Maths Day at our school. This is our third year of participation, and it just gets better and better. It’s math, it’s free and it’s global!
This year World Maths Day is fundraising for UNICEF with 1/2 the funds raised going back to your school. I love the global flavor of the whole endeavor.
Students log in, and a map immediately begins searching the world for other students to play against. Flags and avatars pop up and the math begins. It’s math facts, and it’s fast!
The actual event is on March 1 (sort-of, depending on time zone). But right now, we practice, practice, practice.
Last year I had huge goals of using this activity to dig deeper into world geography. Didn’t quite work out. But this year, the map is up, the locations are being collected by students and we’re learning our way around the globe.
