The New Yorker Cover

Wow!  As a true New Yorker fan, I was taken aback by the cover that arrived in my mailbox this morning for the August 9, 2010 issue–hubba hubba.  It’s a beautiful silhouette-ish illustration of a bikini-clad woman dropping her cell phone in a swimming pool.  Not only do I love the colors, but the action of this woman caught my attention.  Did she accidently drop it?  Did she give it a gentle toss into the pool?  Is she upset?  You can only see her hair, right ear and right eyelash, so her face can’t help me sort it out.  Cool.

The 20 Under 40 this week is The Train of Their Departure by David Bezmozgis.  But you’ll hear about that later.

Cook’s Illustrated arrived today too and I’d swear we let that subscription go months ago. Oh well, there’s an eggplant on the cover with that most-amazing eggplant-purple framing the page.  Yum.
