The New Yorker does it again! The August 2, 2010 issue features Tea Obreht’s story, Blue Water Djinn. Fantastic! The boy and Mr. Fawad are beautiful characters. Even the dead Frenchman comes off well rounded. Now I’m getting excited about this 20 Under 40 feather. Perhaps I should revisit some of the past featured writers–I might have missed something.
Still enjoying The Lost City of Z, but camping last week was not conducive to reading–too much fishing, kayaking and eating to bother with a book. Then I absolutely must read the Henrietta Lacks story (the basis of Hela cells). Heard a bit about her on RadioLab, then heard a review on NPR–definitely next.
